Thank you for yet another brilliant article. The 'moderate' versus 'extremist' argument falls flat when we think of Mother Teresa or St Francis. These were two 'extremist' christians who took the gospel literally. They gave away all their possessions and devoted their lives to God and helping the poor. If anything, Christianity needs MORE extremists, not less. There are too many bland christians as it is. The question these 'all religions are just the same' proponents should really be asking is; 'what are you extremist about?'. Extreme about the quran? Then yes you would end up engaging in violence for the sake of the god portrayed in there, beating your wife and following the rules on how to divorce your preadolescent wife. There are no teachings that would lead anywhere close to a St Francis or Mother Teresa. (yes I have read the entire Quran)
